Don't Breathe or They Might Hear is a visual novel with horror elements where you decide whom to consider a friend or an enemy—and your decisions determine who lives to the end. The protagonist works in the porn industry and spends more time thinking about his next hookup than how he builds relationships. His boss celebrates Halloween by arranging a porn shoot in an old mansion on the edge of the world: quite the employee benefits package.

Flirting With Consequences

You communicate and build relationships with girls, solve puzzles and riddles, and uncover the history of the mansion and its inhabitants. Building relationships affects which animations you can unlock. At certain points, you'll face choices that may affect who survives. About a dozen different mini-games are planned alongside the puzzles and riddles.

The developer plans more than 15 girls in the game, with only 6 girls extremely important to the plot, and is keeping their identities secret. For the main characters, your choices determine whether you win their favor and whether they make it to the end. The developer describes the non-main girls as characters you'll communicate and interact with, possibly including sexual encounters, but says you won't be able to influence the plot through them or save them.

Adult content and survival share the same decision-driven premise: your choices affect both whom you have sex with and who survives. The content notice identifies all characters involved in adult content as adults and warns of explicit sexual content, nudity, violence, gore, suicide, profanity, and alcohol and tobacco use.

An Unfinished Night

The game is fully hand-drawn and hand-animated. The current story includes a prologue, the first chapter, and part of the second chapter. The developer plans a complete story with a prologue, 3 chapters, and an epilogue. The developer estimates the game is only 40% complete, warns that it may have bugs, and acknowledges that the translation isn't very good.

The developer plans to finish in a year and is considering different update schedules. One proposed option is updates every 1–2 months, each adding 2–3 new animations, a couple of locations, and either a side quest or the main quest. The other proposed option is updates every 3–4 months, with a couple of quests, several new locations, and 6–9 new animations. The developer announced the old demo's removal because its characters and animations no longer matched the game, and promised a new Steam demo in time.
